(a) Calculate the volume change of a solid copper cube, of sides 20 cm when subjected to a hydraulic pressure of 1.00X107 Pa.
(b) If the liquid used to compress the cube is water, calculate the percentage change in volume of the water?
Bulk modulus of copper, B = 1.40 × 1011 Pa
Bulk modulus of water, B = 2.20 × 109 Pa

(a) Bulk modulus B = [P / (ΔV/V)]
1.40 × 1011 Pa = [(1.00X107 Pa) / (ΔV/ 8.00X10-3 m3)]
1.40 × 1011 Pa = {[(1.00X107 Pa) X (8.00X10-3 m2)] / (ΔV)}
(ΔV) = {[(1.00X107 Pa) X (8.00X10-3 m3)] / (1.40 × 1011 Pa)}
(ΔV) = (5.71X10-7 m3)
(ΔV) = (0.571 cm3)

(b) Let Volume of water = Vm3
2.20 × 109 Pa = [(1.00X107 Pa) / (ΔV/V)]
(ΔV/V) = [(1.00X107 Pa) / (2.20 × 109 Pa)]
(ΔV/V) = 4.55X10-3
